Blair Athol
Blair Athol distillery is situated in the picturesque Perthshire countryside, near the town of Pitlochry. The distillery is surrounded by scenic landscapes, including rolling hills and the River Tummel.
With a long and storied history dating back to 1798, the distillery has undergone several expansions and renovations over the years. Blair Athol has also changed hands multiple times throughout its history. It was acquired by Arthur Bell & Sons (now part of Diageo) in 1933, and it has been an important component in the Bell's blend.
Production Style & Core Range
Blair Athol whiskies are known for their rich and robust character, often characterised by fruity, nutty and spicy notes. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills for distillation, and the spirit is typically matured in a combination of American oak and European oak casks. Blair Athol offers a limited official core range, primarily focusing on expressions bottled under Diageo's Flora & Fauna range.
Independent Bottlings
In addition to official releases, Blair Athol whiskies are also bottled by independent bottlers. These independent releases may offer enthusiasts a chance to explore different expressions and maturation styles from the distillery.
Visitor Centre
Blair Athol Distillery has a visitor center that welcomes whisky enthusiasts. Visitors can take guided tours to learn about the whisky-making process, explore the historic distillery buildings, and enjoy tastings of Blair Athol whiskies while learning about the brand's heritage.
While Blair Athol may not be as widely known as some other Highland distilleries, its whiskies have earned recognition and appreciation among enthusiasts for their quality and distinctive character.
