Glen Moray

Glen Moray Distillery is situated in the town of Elgin, in the heart of the Speyside whisky-producing region. It was founded in 1897 by the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Company, which was a partnership of local whisky merchants. The distillery was built on the site of a former brewery and has a rich history spanning over a century.

Vic says: “It’s a lovely distillery and is really being pushed and advertised by the owners. It's a good seller and sits at a great price point. You can expect a light, fresh, fruity Speyside, normally ex-bourbon but they are doing some amazing whiskies with cask finishes; sherry, port, Madeira, cognac, so look out for all the new expressions coming out.”

House Style & Core Range
Glen Moray whiskies are known for their approachable and versatile character. The distillery uses copper pot stills for distillation, and the spirit is matured in a variety of cask types, including ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks. Some of the core range expressions may include Glen Moray Classic, Glen Moray Elgin Classic Sherry Cask, Glen Moray Elgin Classic Peated, and Glen Moray 12 Year Old.

Experimental Releases
In addition to its core range, Glen Moray periodically releases experimental expressions and limited editions. These releases may showcase unique cask finishes, peating levels, or other innovative techniques, allowing enthusiasts to explore different facets of Glen Moray's character.

Visitor Centre
Glen Moray Distillery has a visitor centre that welcomes whisky enthusiasts. Visitors can take guided tours to learn about the whisky-making process, explore the historic distillery buildings, and enjoy tastings of Glen Moray whiskies while learning about the brand's heritage. Vic says: "As part of the tour, they take you into the warehouse and then they'll open up a madeira cask, a port cask, a rum cask... so you can put your nose in, smell the differences and feel the casks. It's a great tour and a lovely experience."

Glen Moray Distillery's focus on quality, innovation, and community engagement reflects its commitment to maintaining its legacy while embracing opportunities for growth and exploration in the dynamic world of Scotch whisky.
