Edinburgh Whisky Academy Founder Kirsty McKerrow Inducted into The Worshipful Company of Distillers
We are thrilled to share that our Founder & Managing Director, Kirsty McKerrow, has been officially inducted into The Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of the City of London’s historic Livery Companies. Kirsty, along with six other distinguished individuals, received this honour at an installation ceremony last month. It underscores her remarkable contributions to whisky education and the wider spirits industry.
What is The Worshipful Company of Distillers?
Founded in 1638, The Worshipful Company of Distillers is one of the 110 Livery Companies of the City of London, originally established to oversee the trade and quality of spirits in the UK. Today, the Company serves as a cornerstone for the global spirits industry, fostering collaboration, excellence and innovation while also supporting charitable causes and educational initiatives.
Kirsty’s induction reflects her dedication to enhancing whisky education through the Edinburgh Whisky Academy. By making the craft and heritage of whisky accessible to a global audience, she continues to set the benchmark for externally accredited whisky education and training. Whisky is an industry of enthusiasts, and our accessible online and in-person courses bring together the two with real passion and purpose.
A Future of Collaboration and Excellence
As a member, Kirsty will have the opportunity to collaborate with other leaders in the field to further the Company’s mission. From supporting charitable initiatives to shaping the future of whisky through education and innovation, her induction strengthens the Academy’s connection to the wider whisky and spirits community.
This induction carries special significance for Kirsty, as she follows in the footsteps of her father, Neil McKerrow, and her sister, Louise McKerrow, who are also Liverymen of The Worshipful Company of Distillers. Neil’s enduring legacy in the whisky industry has undoubtedly inspired Kirsty’s pioneering work in education and her passion for advancing the craft.
Kirsty said: “It is an incredible honour to be welcomed into The Worshipful Company of Distillers, especially alongside industry peers and with such a rich family connection. At the Edinburgh Whisky Academy, we pride ourselves on offering brand-neutral education, where our teachers and expert contributors share decades of on-the-job experience and insight. This recognition reinforces our commitment to supporting the industry through impartial, world-class education.”
