Loch Lomond Distillery is a unique and versatile Scotch whisky distillery located near the famous Loch Lomond in the Highland region of Scotland. Known for its innovative approach to whisky production, Loch Lomond produces a wide range of whiskies, including single malts, blended malts and grain whiskies.
Location
Loch Lomond Distillery is situated in Alexandria, close to the southern shore of Loch Lomond. This location places it in the Highland whisky region, though it has a distinct character influenced by its innovative production methods.
History & Ownership
The distillery was founded in 1964 by the Littlemill Distillery Company, a partnership between the American company Barton Brands and Scottish entrepreneur Duncan Thomas. Despite being a relatively young distillery compared to others in Scotland, Loch Lomond has made a significant impact in the whisky world. Loch Lomond Distillery is owned by Loch Lomond Group, which also owns the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown.
Production Methods
Loch Lomond Distillery uses a combination of traditional pot stills, unique straight-neck pot stills and continuous column stills. This variety allows Loch Lomond to produce different styles of whisky, from light and fruity to rich and peaty. It is also one of the few distilleries in Scotland capable of producing both malt and grain whisky on the same site. This versatility enables the production of single malts, blended malts and single grain whiskies.
Core Range
Loch Lomond offers a diverse range of whiskies under several labels: Loch Lomond Original (an entry-level single malt with a light and approachable profile, featuring notes of citrus and orchard fruits). Loch Lomond 12 Year Old (a balanced single malt with flavours of apple, pear and vanilla, matured in three types of casks (bourbon, refill and recharred). Loch Lomond 18 Year Old: (a more mature expression with rich flavours of oak, dried fruits and spice).
In addition to single malts, Loch Lomond produces blended whiskies such as Loch Lomond Reserve and Loch Lomond Signature, which combine different malt and grain whiskies to create well-balanced and flavourful blends.
